You can actually feel his thoughts.
I don’t know the man, but I do feel his pain
I dunno. Working in a relatively stressful and fast pace jobs has me wishing I could just rake up colorful leaves for a while at work then go home.
That poor sod still has to clear those brightly colourful leaves when the wind stops and the rain starts, then they turn a lovely shade brown sludge and weigh a ton.
Like Sisyphus toiling in Hell.
Sometimes it be like it do
Maybe his thoughts are what is moving the leaves.
"Hooray, I'm definitely not losing my job today!"
Yessss.... I can feel your anger...
Naw man, that's job security. Be as good or as bad at your job as you want, you basically just got paid to listen to music.
I never understood why people complained about getting easy repetitive tasks at hourly jobs, especially retail.
You’re getting paid regardless, why not take an easy task to finish out your shift?
Have you ever worked retail?
I don't understand why you're being downvoted. you're completely correct, I work in a fairly large grocery store and I enjoy when I get to rearrange the shelves and make them look all tidy and presentable. it's easy, and visually pleasing when you line up all the drinks with all the labels.
I'd do that to finish off my shift instead of bagging 2 carts of groceries any day.
I think people might have read that as 'you shouldn't complain about retail jobs' instead of 'you shouldn't complain about the easy repetitive tasks'?
There is enough variation in a job like that where I would not consider it the same as a heavily repetitious job like you would see on an assembly line or production job. Ask people who work the line making sausages for a living how fun it is to make 15K+ sausages a shift how fun that job is when you can't even stop for a second.
When I started hearing and seeing jobs like that, my old Best Buy jobs looked incredibly free by comparison.
Sometimes I miss working in the grocery deli. I mean it did suck but I was good at it and there was lots of variety in the work. I wouldn't want a job with only one menial task, but menial tasks are a great break from customer-facing jobs.
I worked at Sears for Black Friday one year, literally just a 4 month job. Early morning shift. Basically just putting out merchandise and fixing clothes from 4am-10am.
I was allowed to listen to music and sometimes I miss that job. Easy to just fold clothes, listen to music or podcast, and forget about everything for awhile. There’s nothing to it.
And the downvotes come from people who don’t have a real job with real responsibilities lol, they think it gets easier when you’re “doing something you like” but it just gets much more complicated.
Yea but the trade off is being broke vs not being broke (or at least not as broke). As a broke college student who’s currently working retail (and has been for years now) I can’t wait to start my career. Not a lot of fulfillment folding and putting up clothes every day
It’s exciting at first, don’t get me wrong. You’re making more money and doing something that might benefit someone instead of busy work.
Eventually all things get dull and your bills go up when your salary increases.
Trust me, there’s millions of people who are living with depression due to their workplace when they’re “not broke”.
Sure but I’m already depressed now might as well have more money
The downvotes are coming from the lack of acknowledgement that not everyone is going to feel the same way about often hard labor or low wage jobs (the guy raking leaves in the gif posted isn’t doing easy shit like shelving. He’s raking. All day. Probably for the whole season that leaves are falling)
And it doesn’t necessarily come from a place of “loving” a job or not because you make a fair point (but still sound a little ungrateful making it too).
The point is not to feel miserable either, but to find support in humorous commiseration so it’s not really the place to stick a serious judgmental attitude about people’s jobs - a generically shitty attitude to take anyway.
yes but is your time worth the measly amount they pay you? most people value their time more than most retail jobs pay. i mean i worked in a factory getting 11 bucks an hour....i slacked off constantly but i never fucked up, because i never fucked up i got 1.50 raise in my first 3 months. then they bounced me into the booth cutting and drilling parts, and once i got fed up with that the other people in my area couldnt keep up to me i talked to my boss he bumped me up to 18.50 an hour (i was getting the same pay as the boss man and i was floor worker!)...and jacked my hours to 10 a day i was like "sweet free money!" after 4 months of that my boss who gave me raises quit..and the new boss threatened to fire me daily for slacking off id just look around "man i dont see any parts for me to do...so you can fire me i dont really care, but you have no grounds to fire me. cuz resta the factory needs to keep up" so then he had me bouncing areas durinjg my shift, i was working 2-3 jobs during the same 10 hour period...i told the new boss to put me out in shipping i cant fucking stand it in the factory doing 3 peoples work for 10 hours....i did go to shipping it was awesome being outside all day but i ended up filling in other roles for part repair and part pulling (like out of giant molds) it great but it was just more of the same this went on for like 7 more months, i asked for a small raise during the winter i got laughed at... but i got another new boss i fucking hated. she fired me because i refused to work because that night we had freezing rain and i couldnt stop shivering the last half hour of my 10 hour shift i couldnt even think straight of how cold i was. i couldnt climb because i was shivering so badly, i was escorted off the premises because i couldnt walk for shit. and told to "get the fuck off the premesis you lazy sack of shit" i called my ride and told them to come get me they didnt show so i stumbled my way home.
I'm so sorry man, but that was really, really hard to read without punctuation.
My inner voice is all out of breath, because it reads like one giant sentence.
Repetitive work isn't for everyone. Everyone has their own work flow. Find the career that's right for you.
Boredom is rough. Id rather have a busy day then not at work cause I am good at my job and it makes thing,go faster. If we,have nothing to do I have trouble focusing
Still depends on the job. Retail is shitty boring because you need to interact with people. In my current job, mostly all I do is sit in a workshop assembling small bits of machinery, but I can listen to audiobooks and music all day. Keeping my hands and eyes busy actually helps me not get bored just sitting there listening, while the books keep me entertained and engaged enough to not get bored just sitting there building parts.
Ueah see on the boring days i still have to listen for people and calls. Also i get so sleepy very time it happens. Good point though
It's all fun and games until the weeks become months, the months become years, and the years become decades.
I work HR in a company where some of the jobs are literally putting breadties through tags and twisting them. You want to do that 8 hours a day, 40 hours a week for years?
I’m one of those people who hates repetitive tasks. I have a hard time concentrating on anything that doesn’t really interest me. If you have an overactive mind, being bored is the worst because your mind races to find things to think about and it feels like every minute just drags along. I also don’t think I can’t ever just turn my brain off or slow it down, it just constantly runs if I’m not engaged with something of interest. Easy tasks are nice every once in a while to give yourself a break, but if you do it for 8-12 hours a day, and you have an overactive mind, you’re going to want to die.
I'm the same way especially when the task is simple. My past few jobs were like that, so to focus better I'd switch it up. At my warehouse job, I'd work on dance moves, practice narrating the operation of a machine in Morgan Freeman's voice, anything to keep my mind active enough to pay attention to the task at hand.
do you just think other people think slower? or that they have inactive brains?
Come on now, he didn't say that, don't project. I know where he's getting at, some people simply do have lots of thoughts, some people are more chill, and you know what, it's fine, doesn't mean someone is slower in the pejorative sense, or that they're idiots.
I don't think I've ever heard complaining about doing repetitive tasks. Being paid a low wage while being made to work long shifts, work holidays, and deal with shitty customers on the other hand? I'd say that's what most people gripe about when working retail.
At least this was my experience when I worked as a cashier at a duty free store that required you to work 12 hour shifts.
For some people the repetition is extremely boring. Many people need something more exciting regardless of if they're being paid for something simple. Plus, you won't always get to decide between fixing shelves or bagging items. Managers typically allocate particular jobs.
Hello- retail worker here. Have you ever heard the ancient story of the man who is cursed to push a bolder up a hill for all eternity? Ever time he gets it to nearly the top of the hill it rolls back down again and he has to start over. It's kinda like that but every now and then you're pulled away to answer a brain dead question by someone who could have easily figured it out by themselves.
If someone paid me a liveable wage to clean toilets you would never hear a complaint out of me.
Most of the people that complained about retails are cashiers. I work part time in retail and i worked for both front end and back end. I honestly think it’s valid for people to complain about repetitive jobs if they were to work on front end as cashier. You deal with shitty customers almost every day, tried to get people to sign up for credit cards when you know it shit, and get yell by your manager when the customer complained about something that’s not your fault to begin with. it’s one of the worst thing.
People who have replied to you so far seem like they mostly do inventory and restocking shelves and that’s fine, I loved those parts of the job too, but that’s not where most of the complaints come from.
If you're actually curious about this, Karl Marx has interesting thought on this very issue. I believe the most literal translation of it would be 'the estrangement of labour'. Basically his rationale is that people don't just labour for wage, but also for purpose, involvement in their product, and so on. If a task is repetitive, boring, unchallenging, pointless or the worker doesn't feel connected to the finished product, the person can become estranged from their labour.
Edit: forgot to clarify, when this happens it will eventually lead to violent revolution and the demise of modern capitalist society, of course
Just different personalities i would say... Some people, enjoy keeping busy to make time fly at work,,some are so miserable they are there they'd rather do nothing and spend no mental energy to make it till the end of the shift, stayi,g busy is better and will make time quicker but if you feel like hell and hate the people around you even simple tasks make you dread being there even more, this is all speaking from the past when I did work shitty ass retail!
Retail and a job as an assistant stuffing envelopes and printing stuff are by far the easiest jobs I’ve ever had, but also the most unfulfilling. Sometimes, though, it is nice to be able to take some time where you’re literally paid to listen to music and take it easy mentally.
Honestly I agree, cleaning is fun and I just get to sit there and fantasize about some stupid shit. I couldn't do that my whole life though, living in a dream world is fucking garbage
Because some people like an actual challenge for their brain. It makes the day go by faster too.
But you get paid shit wages.
It depends on the degree of repetitiveness and how pleasing or unpleasant the work environment is.
Because it’s boring
Not true for me. I was busting my ass off and still got yelled at
Because people don't just want money, they want to feel proud and accomplished
Except its china, where doing nothing is frowned upon.
This guy is positive af
This looks like Beijing. His job security is the fact that the government wants them to be employed. I've seen them literally sweeping water into the drain (where it was already headed) before.
That shot makes him look like the protagonist in a shounen anime.
Let me expand dat ;)
As the leaves of chaos starts spreading around the world eating all of humanity, its upto 15y/o [insert cool-name] and his mystic slaying broom to clean the world from this impurities. However what waits for him at the end of this journey is just the beginning of a Fall.

Id watch/read it
I had the opposite thought: Patient Zero of the zombie apocalypse.
I need to know the full story before I decide if using a flamethrower on snow is arrest worthy.
I mean, clearing the snow with ease, a free ride to man in a kickass wig with a badass hammer, get to be in the news, interviewed by professionals AND you can decide to get a free best bud who will defend you while talking to said kickass-wig-and-hammer-man. What more could you ask for?
That’s fucking genius
Sounds like a Trump joke
Welp, just found the male version of myself and I now have another use for my flamethrower.
Maybe he's just enjoying how pretty it looks. :)
He just had a spiritual awakening.
Most likely. People with those types of jobs realize that their job never ends. It's just a continuous circle that consists of cleanliness, getting messed up, and then cleanliness again.
honestly scenes like this gives me a strong sense of calm for some reason, I would definitely be that guy just zoning out staring at the leaves
Day 1 outside the Vault.
Make it black and white.
Add audio from any cinematic trailer with ominous music and some deep voice narration.
Hello darkness my old friend
Maybe he’s thinking “job security”
Boss: I thought I told you to brush the walk, what do I pay you for? Worker: But I did...
more like "Ahhh job security"
If you have ever been to China you know those sweepers in China work all day long. People in China don't use the trash cans. They just throw their garbage in the street. Then every 10 minutes sweepers come by and sweep it all into the enormous pile on the side of the street.
Here I am
Rock you like a hurricane
"Santa Ana wiiiiiiinnnnndddd"
I kind of feel like he's having a "I am one with the wind" epiphany
Hello darkness, my old friend...
Working in IT, this is how I feel when an employee attempts to move their equipment on their own...or install software(thank god for permissions.)
Unrelated to the gif, sweet fucking username. If you’re seeing this you must upvote it, due to the implication of course.
But I’m not in any real danger if I don’t, right?
Danger?? What no. Dude. You’re blowing this way out of proportion. There’s only an implication of danger.
Ahh the implication, have an upvote
Job security at its finest... and most depressing
There’s a real epic-ness to this scene. I feel it needs like a narration in the background, with epic, deep music.
‘And he realises now, as leafless bodies fall to the asphalt...that his battle may be over. But the war...the war has just begun.’
This is an old repost.
This could be a painting
I have felt this exact pain. I work for city Public Works, and one day we have to blow leaves off the sidewalk. Get done, get back to the truck, and drive by a sidewalk that is.... Completely covered by leaves.
The poor bastard. Those trees are only just turning yellow too, he has got weeks of pointless repeated sweepings ahead of him.
This is so strangely beautiful
Hypnotizing trance of nature’s dance
I can see his face looking so dead inside and I can’t even see his face
I know that employee, always excuses with him for why he isn't able to finish his work.
Holy shit! Ahnegao still exists? That's some OG meme blog right there.
"The whole world is against us dude, I swear to god" - Jay to Silent Bob.
Looks like a Beijing municipal sanitation worker.
Some say you can still hear him raking to this day...
Anyway why clean up....they look awesome on floor
Why are Asian brooms designed so differently than American ones?
When you’ve been cutting out in class and someone blows the paper
Looks at sub
He spent all day sweeping up the leaves and this happened 10 minutes before he was due to get off. He was just waiting for his supervisor to show up to sign-off on his work.
It really do be like that sometime
Some may call it job security
Cameraman couldn’t not hug this guy after
Idk, looks like good job security to me.
Resistance is futile.
What kind of shitty ass broom is he using? Looks like a cartoon broom a cartoon witch uses.
is he sweeping? i’m confused
All the leaves ar.. ARE THE LEAVES ARE GONE
Never rake the leaves on a windy day.
Whatever, that is job security.
I close my eyes
Is that Sad Hoshi?
If my job was to stand around in the breeze pretending it's work I wouldn't quit that
Looks like job security to me. State job.
This gave me The Happening vibes.
I wish this had sound so I could hear the camera guy laughing hysterically in the background
Be frustrated with all the colors of the wind.
Me. Every November.
Bro I genuinely want to help this man. You can just see and feel his depression in the way he stands. Its not like most posts where it is just haha, he did something funny that ended in bad ways. It's more like I want to cry with this man.
Longer focal length and fast lens could have made a killer picture here .
Who else started framing this up in their head ?
Hey whatever man, I’m getting paid by the hour.
It’s China, probably not getting much to begin with
This is someone’s version of hell.
When you wash your parents car and they drive on a dirt road and come back with the car completely covered in dust and dirt
Looks like Detroit become human
All around me are familiar faces…
Does anyone know what city this is? I’ve only been to China once but this looks exactly like the street I used to walk to work while I was there!
Hes Wind Master
No, that is when you break into song and dance with a broom crew, sweeping and singing about how
When the wind is howling and the leaves begin to fall
You may begin to feel that theres no point to life at all
But with a whistle and skip you're singing with your friends
And realize that they're the guys who'll love you in the end!
Nah. He just got guaranteed overtime. He should record that for his timesheet.
Hello darkness my old friend
nice repost, you should burn
Over 13 thousand people have not seen this or have enjoyed it, relax a little dude
Haha! This is great! I should save this gif and post it in a week, in this same sub! Why haven't anyone thought of that before?!
You are an idiot
This is the best one in a long while.
"there's no way this day can get any worse''

That is the stillest man
I never understood why some people care about leaves on the ground
How about starting the job when all the leaves have fallen down?
Yes, let's just wait it out and let piles of leaves coat this public sidewalk.
This repost shit is wild, man
I mean, it is a broom in his hand; not a rake. So really a fools errand2
