Amazing. A fast crash at slow speed. I can’t stop watching. And I can’t figure out what happened.
He saw the island/divider n probably though he can U turn in what he thought was the opposite side of the road. Clearly fucked.
But he did a slow motion e-brake slide!? I still don’t understand the physics of this situation.
But he did a slow motion e-brake slide!?
Gotta look cool for the dashcams.
Insurance adjuster: Ok yeah you’re right that was a pretty fucking sweet slide
"but now the city has to put a sign up because of you..
But damn, that was a sick ass slide!"
There is a story for every sign.
"Unfortunately we cannot cover the damages because you forgot to say "YEET" while performing the maneuver."
I rarely laugh out loud but you made me pretty fucking hard. I don't even know why but thank you so much.
I missed the "lol" at first and it became a completely different sentence.
Bro, you have accident forgiveness but there's nothing to forgive, that was pretty rad.
Yes, it especially helps since it's raining. Makes it slide much easier
Saw the traffic/decided to take a different route, its wet, road most likely slippery from oil, he had enough momentum in a light front wheel drive car to snap the handbrake on and flick the back end. Textbook move
The ebrake would have caused the rear wheels to slide, which isn't happening in this video.
Honestly, I'm not sure how the front end was able to swing around so fast here. Especially since the road looks wet.
The rear wheels definitely lock up and slide. Like all the others say I think the driver took the opportunity to pull a handbrake turn on a wet surface. All the focus was on that manoeuvre and not looking for traffic in the lane the driver slid into.
It's clear to see on a large screen.
The inside cv joint could have seized causing the inside front tyre to lock up and turn in while the outside front is still powered by engine, wet road making the back end slide around. Imo. I'm no expert I just drill holes
And the diff would make the other wheel go twice as fast suddenly, therefore the snappy turn.
My theory is driver was already in reverse gear and was on the accelerator when the truck hit resulting in faster reverse speed. Oh and assuming the car is as also front wheel drive.
I thought he meant the initial drift, not getting hit by the truck.
I think he saw something that spooked him, like a semi truck headed towards him, and panicked and stomped the brakes.
Uh, that is absolutely not what happened. You can clearly see that the rear wheels had already stopped spinning when he turned the wheel. And that's now how a car behaves when you panic brake, anyway.
modern car with ABS, the brakes aren't likely to just lock on the rear and keep the fronts spinning, that was a handbrake.
Ah, now you ruined it for me...
I think he thought it was his last opportunity to go the other direction in the lane 20m to the left, and didn’t have the turning radius to do a standard u turn. Or, he was totally messing around. Either way, bad news for him.
Maybe a spider was descending from it's web in front of his face.
The driver was clearly hoping a large truck would come through to smash the front half of the car, therefore killing the spider.
I’ve had that happen and it is very not fun when you’re trying not to crash and die, let me tell you
That's what I was thinking
Argument with crazy girlfriend, crazy girlfriend decides to teach him a lesson, so she yanks the handbrake lever.
I had a crazy ex who used to threaten that, he'd ride with his hand on the brake to emphasize the threat.
He wouldn't be threatening with me, he'd be walking.
Congrats on the 'ex' status.
Yeah I was a dumb teen in my first relationship and he was in his 20s. I also have a habit of dating abisive control freaks like my dad.
I also have a habit of dating abisive control freaks like my dad
I read that as an Alabama quote at first
But sorry you've dated people like that :(
Immediately splitting with my partner if she does that.
I mean, after we complete our journey safely...
What does that say about me that I saw it and said “looks like his passenger pulled the ebrake” immediately?
Conservation of angular momentum
It's almost a piece of art
Trucks are heavy so they have momentum and take forever to stop.
The truck driver probably instantly saw this and slammed the brakes, but did not have enough room.
I have no clue what with the turning car though.
“This seems like a good enough place to die”
It looks like it's front left tire locks up the moment after he touches his brakes and that's what spins him around.
Just a guess, too much gas and wet road. Car spun around and ended up in the path of the truck. Bad luck, band tires and/or possible inexperienced driver.
That's not how fwd works.
Silver car’s rear wheels were locked up, but there were no brake lights. The parking brake 180 was deliberate, but they didn’t expect a dump truck to hit them in the mouth.
Ah you're right. Dumb move by the driver then.
Definitely the parking brake, but based on some of the stupidity on this sub, I definitely wouldn’t say it was deliberate
I wonder if the passenger pulled the parking brake and the driver tapped the brakes and it came around.
That would only happen with a rear wheel drive car, which this is not. Also you can clearly see the rear wheels lock up. My money would be on crazy passenger yanking up the hand brake.
I think he trying to do a U-turn or something? Very strange
You can tell at the beginning of the video theres a split second the concrete median is open before a long line of traffic looks like he was trying to whip back around and get out there not knowing there was a truck !
Ahh you’re right. Not sure how someone can miss an entire truck but as we know from this subreddit some drivers are... very blind.
This is most likely because of tunnel vision. You only see what you're focused on, not paying attention to anything else.
This happened to me just today. I always get turned around in our uptown area and I went to pull into the left turn lane completely not seeing the car already there. Fortunately we didn’t hit but it was close.
Aw man I stinking did this like a few weeks ago. I knew kinda where I was and that my exit was in a weird spot and I was watching the lights. I don't remember seeing a red light. Somehow just as I caught myself flying through it I was able to get out of the way of on coming traffic.
But it was so crazy because I honestly did not fucking see that light. I've never really had that happen before. I could have caused a huge fucking accident. I got lucky. I've been extra stinking careful lately. Missing and running that light has done nothing for my anxiety.
Just can happen so fast.
Yeah, any time I have a near miss I keep playing it over and over in my head, thinking about it for days afterward. I just try to focus on learning from it.
So glad you and everyone were okay!
I have this problem in parking lots. I start backing up, everything is clear and then look forward to not hit the cars on either side of me. (No matter where I park, people love to always chose spots right next to me and I dont even drive a sportscar).
Then look back again and theres someone right behind me. Parking lots scare me people people race through them and there are so many corners that people could appear from.
I'm very confident on the road otherwise.
I actually read a bunch of studies on why old people drive the way they do and tunnel vision is a pretty accurate way to describe their driving. They tend to focus on not hitting what's directly in front of them, which is why they have so many accidents at intersections.
Game of Thrones vision. If it's off camera, it doesn't exist!
Even if he did the u-turn to get away, he would still be driving on the wrong side of the road with nowhere to get away.
If you look at the beginning of the video you’ll see the lanes were not split with the barrier, so he was probably trying to get to that section.
Oh yeah I see it.
It'd explain the idiots driving the wrong way on the freeway though.
If I was feeling charitable I'd suggest the driver was planning to pull that move at the top of the ramp to get facing the right way.
To me it looks like the driver wasn't paying attention and starts to drift too close to the barrier. Then they suddenly realize they are too close and spaz out. They tap the breaks, then realize last minute that they need to turn to the left to avoid the barrier. But instead turn entirely too hard to the left to correct course and end up making a u-turn into on coming traffic.
I thought it looked like they kind of lost their mind and said "fuck this" and made a split decision to gtfo.
You could be right too.
This 100%. That was a jerk, not a u-turn. I don’t know why everyone thinks this was a U-turn.
I thought the same. This looks like a panic acceleration move
No, his rear wheels are locked and not rotating, he wasn’t in a u-turn. I am almost guessing that the road is darker than the other side and there by either wet or fresh.
There are rain drops on the windshield. That road is definitely wet. Looks like he jerked the wheel, lost control, pulled the e-brake, got hit.
Playlist was on shuffle- Tokyo drift songs came on
Gotta do it, man
I wonder if you know, How they live in Tokyo, If you seen it then you mean it, Then you know you have to go
Fast and furious!
Drift, drift, drift.
If you ain’t outta control you ain’t in control!
Ebrake was definitely pulled, maybe on purpose? Maybe the passenger? But it seems intentional based on the brake lights then no brake lights while turning hard
I think they thought they could pull a U and drive the other way only to find the dump truck instead
Ebrake was def pulled, right before the car starts to turn you can see that the back wheel stops spinning. Unless that’s just the video.
Ebrake was pulled on purpose. It was done by the driver. It was intentional.
I had a passenger do this to me.
That person is an idiot.
Which is why he isn't my boyfriend anymore.
Username checks out.
Of all the comments I have gotten in here about my user name, this is by far the best. Took me a moment to get it. Bravo.
I, too, have had an idiot grab my ebrake in traffic. I can't say that's even the dumbest thing he's done. I don't hang out with him anymore.
Source for that matter of fact statement?
That truck was like "here let me help you get back on track :)"
Here is an illustration I made of what he was likely trying to do before winning the Darwin award.
I’ll drop a like for this effort
That's gorgeous, thank you for that
Did the driver with the dashcam stop to do a facepalm?
I have a dashcam that saves the last minute of recording in a special place if it vibrates or if you “wave” at it. Could be what the driver tried to do.
(Having the cam save a separate video makes it easier to find and copy.)
Big truck. Whoa!
What a wild ride.
"If you kids dont behave I'm going to turn this car around!"
Don't think he wanted to go thru that checkpoint.
what is you doing?
Guy definitely pulled the e-brake to bust a bitch and get on the freeway going the opposite direction. Truck said not today.
“Get yo ass back in line!”
I don't think I've ever seen a more instant, heavy dose of reality for such an idiotic move.
Any idea as to what just happened?
I think it was a car accident
I stopped, that truck came out of no where!
Car *crash. Accident implies no one was at fault (lightning strike, etc).
Doesn't look like much of an accident more of a collision to me.
He pulled the hand break to do a U turn, notice how the front tiers the only ones that kept spinning.
Looks like he was going to pull a u turn and then realized there was a truck coming and froze.
Makes sense. I was wondering if there couldn't have been some weird steering lockup issue.
some kind of fraud.
Could have been an insurance scam
That's the most beautiful thing I've seen.
Quick, turn around! Now back, the other way!
I think a lot of these Eastern European crashes & losses of control involve bald tires (though this definitely had e-brake action too).
But some of the videos I see of Ladas and other cars skidding on some barely wet pavement must be a result of these vehicles running on tires with zero tread left
I just feel for the person in the dark blue/green car that got clipped at the end. What a way to have your day ruined.
To me it seems like his rear left wheel locked, and since the car is a FWD, it pulled him to the left. I might be wrong though.
This was my first thought, and I'd rather assume that then just assume the guy magically pulled his e-brake to make some weird u-turn with seemingly no purpose.
Yet another innocent driver suffering the consequences of idiot drivers.
You know he was probably thinking
“ I gotta make this turn quick, let me practice my drift.
I got this- hand on e-brake”
Hit a fucking mario kart banana peel
Is someone going to add the mario kart banana to this? Or am I suppose to use my imagination?
"That's the wrong way. Let me help!"
Turn it back y'all now...
A scene right out of the Fast and the Stupid.
That poor person in the black car was like how the fuck did I get involved in this?
Looks like his right tire hit a patch of oil, likely leaking from someone's oil pan. This happened to me once before, thankfully at like 5 miles per hour but even at that low speed I rotated like 200 degrees
When you just remembered you left your curling iron on at home.
He did the old e-brake u-turn all happy about whipping it around and then bam
This is what I imagine will happen if I sneeze while driving, even though it never does.
Sure they can - IdiotsInCars...
Seriously hahah its wild!
What in the fuckcasity?
Well that was unnecessary
Looks like the weight control(stabilizers? ESC?) went berserk.
It just threw his car to the side, jeezus. Guy was fucked.
Brake lights didnt come on, he was slowly moving in the wrong direction, cranked the wheel a bit but then maybe DSC kicked in, overshot him and screwed him over. (Heres what DSC is, i think it may apply in some way seeing as this controls what looks to have failed in this car. Instead of gliding straight, it cranked his car to the side... https://youtu.be/VvNP2d6MDQM )
Nah, I think it’s as simple has him using the parking brake. Possibly to whip around the corner and try to squeeze between the gap in the concrete barriers shown at the very beginning
Hey he caught the train.
BACK ON THAT SIDE OF THE ROAD.
*Nods head vigorously*
He was almost slick with his handbrake 180 and then ouch
Looks like you can see the back left wheel lock up due to some debris in the road. That caused the sudden U turn.
You can see it from 3.62s to 4.09s
Wow! How did they even make that maneuver? Incredible
What’s this handle do?
Can someone Morgan Freeman’s voice meme this sh*t?
If anyone's wondering what happened this was almost definitely some idiot dude bro in his early 20s trying to do a sick handbrake turn in his mom's car to impress his girlfriend, but forgot to check over his shoulder before yeetin around the curb
I can see what they were trying to do but like... why?
Went from yep to nope real fast...or slow...I don’t even know...
checks dashcam to see if it was recording
I was waiting for the immediate four way flashers
That right there be suicide
Missed 3rd gear and shifted back into 1st gear while accelerating to merge, and the road was wet??? my best guess.
